Penedes Wine

Located in the south of the province of Barcelona and in 16 municipalities of Tarragona, the Penedes Do was created in 1960. Showing its creative nature the Penedes denomination of origin was the first to use stainless steel barrels to make wine. Upper Penedes, Central or Mid Penedes and Lower Penedes are the three distinct districts.

The soil in the denomination is deep, permeable, with clay and has a limestone base. It covers of 26,100 hectares of vineyards, containing more than 4,900 vine growers and 153 wineries that produce the wine. Influenced by the sea and the sun, the climate is warm and mild, similar to the Mediterranean climate. The rains are important enough to make this an excellent vine growing region with the typical degrees between 12 and 14.

Macabeo, Xarel.lo, Parellada, Chardonnay, Gewurtztraminer, Riesling, Muscat, and Chenin Blanc are the white grape varieties used. Having a certain complexity in their aromas, white wines are soft and fresh. Merlot, Garnacha, Carignan, Pinot Noir, Ull of llebre, Monastrell, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah are used to make Red wines that are very structured.
